Sponsoring Refugees: Challenges and Strategies

Join The United Church of Canada’s Refugee Sponsorship
staff to address the challenges of Refugee Sponsorship in the current political
climate, and share strategies that are working.

Refugee Sponsorship is an important part of our
commitment to live out daring justice, but it can be a daunting task. The costs
are high; the rules keep changing, and it can be hard to find partners or
support. On the other hand, the benefits are huge: providing such life-changing
opportunities to an individual refugee or their family not only changes their
lives forever, it also grounds our faith and church life in practical, tangible
and exciting ways. Most congregations that have been through the process choose
to do it again and again!

On May 31 we’re hosting the first of a series of online
meetings to offer support to congregations in the process. During this meeting
you will:

  • Meet the national staff who are here to help your
congregation at every step along the way
  • Get an update on the current Canadian rules and procedures
    for refugee sponsorship
  • Meet representatives of other congregations who can share
    tips, strategies and best practices
  • Share your own congregation’s challenges, so that we can
begin to put together an agenda for an even more extensive program next
    Fall
NOTE: this program will focus on Canadian rules and procedures for refugee sponsorship, and has limited value for people who are not located within Canada

Leadership
will be by Khwaka Kukubo and Ammar Youzbashi, our national Refugee Program
Advisors
