What I learned about Order of Worship

I believe the order of our service does because this is the format we follow. There might be some modifications depending on what is happening that week but by and large, we prepare ourselves for worship by letting go of the sins we have committed during the week. Before the Prayer of Confession, I have a Theme Scripture reading, which forms the basis of the Theme time and the reflection. The Theme Time follows in which I do a practical application of the Theme reading. (I never know when there will be kids in church so this presentation is a simpler rendition of the main message of the reflection - well received by adults and children.) If there are children, they would go with the Youth teacher after the 'Children's Hymn. It follows then that we listen to the Word and its interpretation in the reflection and then make our response to God. The Commissioning should leave the people with a sense of mission from the theme of the message.

This format should ease the people from a sense of despair about what they encountered during the week into a sense of hope for what they may be confronting in the week to come.

In order to improve the worship experience for the people, I think I could be more specific about what the mission is for the coming week beyond 'go forth to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world.' It could be a reminder to smile at the homeless people they encounter on the street - or perhaps to distribute water to folks outside during a hot spell in the weather - or even to try to bring a friend to church next Sunday.
