i am blessed in the fact that I am a musician and so is my wife. We are actually the music ministry at our church when I am not conducting service. My wife is capable of reading music which makes it much easier for me when at the pulpit and when choosing what songs to pic. We have one book '' Voices United" that is available to the congregation., This book is a great resource since in has an index at the back that has possible songs to fit with the lectionary year. It also has an index of songs by topic and category. When and if I have to use other books like ''More voices " or "celebration hymnal" I print the words in the bulletin so the congregation can follow.
I find the biggest hurdle is to introduce new songs they are not familiar with. And I must admit I find many of these old hymns quite boring and not very cheerful. Not exactly uplifting for the younger crowd.
