Case Study 2: Manor Road United Church

Over time, Manor Road United Church has integrated different pieces of equipment to their livestreaming setup. Using multiple laptops, they can achieve different camera angles, and pay particular attention to the backdrop of their service. Their worships are recorded live on Zoom, and then later uploaded to YouTube.

Pros and Cons

The team at Manor Road Untied Church makes sure every volunteer has a different role that they are responsible for to ensure their hybrid worship runs smoothly. For example, they assign someone to control the PowerPoint slides so that the speaker doesn't have to worry about it. (We will learn about this is more detail in the next module!) They also have a lot of different camera angles that keep the online viewers engaged and able to see everything during the service.

A challenge that was touched on in the video is that the speaker is responsible for managing the different laptops and components during the hybrid worship service. This could be improved by using OBS so that one person can manage all the components. Further, the quality of sound that is heard on Zoom could be improved on by adding a sound mixer to the setup.

System Map

Below is a map of the equipment setup for Manor Road United Church. As mentioned in the video, this system was put together piece by piece over time as they identified any gaps in their equipment setup. We can see on the right that the Sound Director has their own setup that they can monitor separately during the service.
