Maybe you would like to learn how to prepare and deliver a sermon as a layperson in your church, but due to your commitments or work attending classes is not possible.
Leading in Faith Today (LIFT) courses are designed for people who are interested in learning more about their faith. We are grateful that you are starting this journey to learn more about the Bible, Lutheran and Anglican theology, preaching traditions and practice. This brief introduction explains the organization and layout of all the LIFT courses.
LIFT Learning Objectives
Each LIFT course provides valuable content and important insight into biblical topics relevant to one's faith for today. The goal of each course goes beyond learning new content but extends into gaining new insight and understanding that culminate in action-based application. The learning objectives reflect these three levels of learning objectives by using the head, heart, and hands model to demonstrate and support holistic learning. For each course, you will gain: New knowledge, emotional and personal insights, and action-based application. Background to LIFT
These 21 LIFT courses were originally offered in person at Lutheran Theological Seminary but now are available in an asynchronous format for individuals to complete at their own pace through CHURCHx. Some courses are combined together into streams that grant a certificate upon completion. We will be rolling out additional LIFT streams including the Ministry Stream, Foundations of Christianity, Anglican Stream, and Lutheran Stream. Available Programs
The first program available is the LIFT Preaching Stream for Self Study, designed for people eager to deepen their understanding of faith and the Bible within the Anglican or Lutheran framework. Moreover, if you've ever aspired to learn how to prepare and deliver a sermon as a layperson in your church or have wanted to get more out of a sermon, this stream is tailored specifically to meet your needs. Upon completion of this stream, you will be prepared biblically, theologically, and practically to craft and deliver a sermon. You have the option of completing the LIFT Pathway to Preaching for Certification course where your course material will be reviewed by the faculty of Lutheran Theological Seminary, and, if satisfactory, a certificate will be awarded to you. You can present this certificate to your church or ministry as an indication of your completed course work. Upon completion of this steam, you will be equipped to preach as a layperson in your church. There is no extra work involved!
