Learn about Social Housing options and needs in our city through this guided tour of the diverse Regent Park Community. This is a live walking tour event taking place on Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 10am to 1pm.
The tour begins and ends at Daniels Spectrum, 585 Dundas St E.
You are invited to a special walking tour of Regent Park! This event is a first-hand look at different housing types, including housing co-ops, housing shelters, mixed-income housing, rent geared to income housing, and subsidized housing. After the walk, we'll enjoy lunch together at Daniels Spectrum followed by a question and answer session led by community housing activists.
This walk is under 2km long and will only take approximately 1 hour. The remaining time
will be spent in the Daniel's Spectrum building, which is fully
accessible. Street parking only.
Hear these speakers talk about different topics:
Angie Hocking. Angie will provide an introduction to the walk.
Greg Cook. Greg will focus on an overview of housing, history, how we got to our current reality, and the commodification of housing.
Debra Dineen. Deborah will cover the topic of housing co-ops.
Brad Sider. Brad will talk about the shelter system.
Walied
Khogali. Walied will go over the definition of affordable housing and the issues we are having with developers around this.
Saleh Sheik. Sahleh will discuss accessibility issues and processes to access subsidies through Canada Ontario Housing Benefit (COHB).
Allan Makuma. Allan will discuss housing shelters and Canada Ontario Housing Benefit (COHB).
Maseeda Majeed. Maseeda will talk about living in Toronto Community Housing (TCHC), and the Regent Park Revitalization Project.
Ina Andrea Labuschagne. Ina will speak about moving from an encampment to supportive housing.
Registration is required, tickets must be purchased in advance. This event has a $15 suggested registration fee per person. However, this is a pay-what-you-can event. However much you choose to pay, we thank you for contributing to the costs of offering this event!
