This four-week curriculum will introduce participants to practical disability theology through stories of Jesus’ healing ministry. Week one will explore Genesis 1: 26-31 and The Sheep and the Goats story in Matthew 25 – showing us that everyone is made in the image of God. In weeks two and three will explore the healing story of Jesus and the paralyzed man within the Gospels, finishing with week four and the great dinner in Luke 14: 12-24.)

This theme is important because many Sunday School participants and their families either live with or are familiar with someone with a disability. It is important to help participants learn that a disability is not a punishment or a sin, and that the healing stories in the Bible are about the metaphorical healing and social restructuring in the Kindom of God brought about by Jesus. This curriculum helps participants engage with the Imago Dei in all people as well as understanding the importance of relationships, trust, inclusion, and advocacy in disability issues. It finishes with the participants learning that Jesus, in taking away our sin, also takes away our shame and invites us to the great communal dinner in the kingdom of God. These tenants are foundational to developing an understanding of the broad spectrum of disability theology and how it related to the miracles of Jesus.

We encourage you to put together a lesson that works best with your group's needs (ages, energy levels, one room/multi room, etc.) Reach out if you have any questions or need any guidance.
