frame rate
Video frame rate refers to the number of individual still images, or "frames," displayed per second in a video. It's measured in "frames per second" (fps). For example:
- 24 fps: Traditional rate for films.
- 30 fps: Common for TV broadcasts in NTSC regions.
- 60 fps: Offers smoother motion, used for sports and video games.
Higher frame rates give smoother motion, while lower frame rates can appear more "filmic" or choppy. Frame rate affects video quality, storage size, and bandwidth usage.
